For more than 7,000 the people in Dallas, a pre-Thanksgiving event ushered in reasons for celebration as the KFC restaurant located at 106 West Illinois celebrated a “Day of Giving” by providing more than 12,000 free meals.
“The entire day went off without a hitch,” said Tabbassum Mumtaz, president and CEO of Apex Restaurants Management, Inc., one of the largest U.S. Long John Silver’s, KFC and Taco Bell franchisees with 152 restaurants operating in six states. “There were five other stores that were helping to keep the product rolling.” Mumtaz is also a member of the IFA Board of Directors.
Starting at 4 p.m. on Nov. 22, the customers were able to enjoy a two-piece meal as part of the KFC and Yum! Brands’ activities for its World Hunger Relief program. The franchise has raised almost $85 million for the World Food Programme and helped to provide more than 350 million meals around the world over the past four years.
In 2010, Yum! Brands, Inc. earned WFP’s Partner of the Year honor and PR Week named it “Cause-Related Campaign of the Year 2010,” its top honor.
